How is HCM diagnosed?
A good history and physical exam are required.
Certain tests help to make the diagnosis:
Other important factors include ECG findings and if there is any family history of HCM or unexplained sudden death in otherwise healthy individuals.A majority of patients with HCM will have an abnormal electrocardiogram (ECG).
The primary diagnostic exam is a 2-D echocardiogram (TTE). Segments of the heart muscle can be visualized and compared for asymmetry, obstruction and other valvular abnormalities.
