Patient care - HCM Clinic

How is HCM diagnosed?

A good history and physical exam are required.

Certain tests help to make the diagnosis:

Other important factors include ECG findings and if there is any family history of HCM or unexplained sudden death in otherwise healthy individuals.

A majority of patients with HCM will have an abnormal electrocardiogram (ECG).

The primary diagnostic exam is a 2-D echocardiogram (TTE). Segments of the heart muscle can be visualized and compared for asymmetry, obstruction and other valvular abnormalities.
